"Moby" - 2019 55" x 31" Medium: Misc. woods, oil paint SOLD
On the heels of some recent works that were lengthy marathons with more solemn content,
I was ready for a little fun and turned towards something improvisational and whimsical.
So I placed some plywood on my easel, and started scribbling charcoal marks to see what might emerge. What bubbled up was a fish image… so I went with it.
I erased the first rough composition and roughed out something more appealing, then reached for my nail-gun and glue, casually committing some large wood scraps in place; the fishes' lips were some of the first elements, salvaged from an old broken kitchen chair.
Anglers are apt to like this one… or anyone hooked by the lure of a grin. :)
