Title: "Wake Up Call"  2011         Size: 49" x 25"          Medium: poplar, pine, scratchboard, glass, metal, stone      • SOLD

"Rather than being a morbid topic, or one bringing angst, death can be the great quieting teacher - the most sobering force to remind us that our time here is brief, the meter is running... to celebrate the precious now.
This piece was inspired by a best friend of mine who died of cancer recently.  His passing gave me just this sort of stoppage, and reminder.
"Dance while you can" has always been a favorite axiom of mine, and so... here it is in pictorial form:
I placed the rooster center stage for this clarion call "it's later than you think"... flanked by two similarly shaped (yet polar) iconic images: a child's rocking-horse & a senior's rocking-chair. The frame of this tableau undergoes a metamorphose: playful & childlike on the left, giving way to conformity & tradition on the right."
