"Kittyhawk" - 2024 41" x 37" Mixed medium: Wood, plastic, metal, fiber, paper collage
Kittyhawk had a different start. It came about from a reaction to an old book that I was planning to discard, a book on the history of aviation (pub. 1970),
… and chock-full of mechanical line drawings of aircraft. This once library-owned book had been kicking around on my shelf for many years,
I kept thinking that someday I just might do a collage “thing” with all those drawings.
So, back in January I thumbed through the book again, did some light-hearted free association… and landed (or took off) on the notion of “human’s first flight”.
*(The background is dense with collage, cutout aircraft...with a chronological flow from the bottom [Wright Brothers] to NASA craft at top).
I’d hoped that Kittyhawk would be comical… I think when the sawdust ’n paint settled, I landed somewhere between nutty and weird, but, what the h_ _ _.
Like our character here, I took a questionable leap.
