"Icarus" - 2022 30" x 40" Wood, collage, modeling paste, oils
The concept sketch for Icarus first emerged in 2005. I happened upon the sketch recently when perusing that old sketchbook...
it gave me a grin... and I wondered if it wouldn't do the same for others, so I jumped into Icarus.
My commentary on “Icarus” is quite identical to an earlier work of mine “Humble Pie” (boxer in boxing ring),
... so much so that I'll borrow from my earlier words a bit:
“My creative pendulum seems to swing back and forth …from works I consider more serious & reflective, to the purely whimsical works such as this piece "Icarus". - My intention here is merely to tug a smile.
Is there an artistic goal more simplistic, ... or important? :)
"Icarus" skewers our easy slip into unchecked ‘ego’ - on the list of “the 7 deadly sins”.
