"Crack of Dawn"      -    2025         45" wide x 39" tall              Wood, modeling paste, metal, oil paint, gold leaf.

Perhaps it was this past 2024 political year, amplifying the ever-present cultural tensions…
our differing world views facing off - center stage.   --   As an artist, how could I ignore this ubiquitous energy?
The use of eyeglasses as a core visual metaphor for ‘perception’ seemed an appropriate device as a point of entry into the narrative.

Up front, “Crack of Dawn” presents a classic staging:  intractable oppositional forces, degrading into conflict.  -
I’ve cast the scene with time-laden warriors, to allude to the long deep history of the still-present situation.
The presentation is essentially a wreckage, warriors broken but unbowed… unenlightened, yet ardently clutching to their dogmatic position.

Behind this seemingly unyielding predicament, there remains potential. Distant as it might be, the gold* is out there - a bridge of eventual resolution and union.

*I will let the viewer decide just what this “golden” orb signifies… be it simply light,  or hope,  .. love, ...or religious/spiritual extrapolations.
