Title: "By the Numbers" - 2018 Size: 27" x 43" Medium: Woods, steel rods, oil paints • SOLD
By the Numbers began as a reflection on the arts …(art about art), with a particular look at degrees of creativity (vs. repetition) in the various genres. My sentiments would echo British philosopher Alfred North Whitehead, who wrote: "Art flourishes where there is a sense of adventure. A sense of nothing having been done before of complete freedom to experiment. But when caution comes in, you get repetition, and repetition is the death of art."
I'm not a fan of 'art about art', so I was happy when "By the Numbers" changed course as it developed… leaving a specific focus upon the subject of art making, and opening more to the related topic of celebrating individuality.
"By the Numbers" has an intended message of not parroting precedents, and finding "one's own voice".
I elected to make the parrot white for symbolic reasons... as awaiting as a blank canvas.
There is color to be found within the wing, and beauty when stretched towards its potential.
